Is Social Media Helpful or Harmful?

  1. Hey Kelly,
Great job! Reading your vlog post makes it abundantly clear where you feel on the subject and the problems that surround it. You clearly care deeply about making sure all of your prospective pupils feel comfortable and comprehended by your description and analysis of the effects of technology and social media. I liked how you provided instances of the methods you intend to use to support students in your classroom. Frankly, I believe with your assertion that instructors must inform learners of the risks associated with sexting. I think part of the reason a kid might be reluctant to talk to their instructor about their incident with sexting or cyberbullying is that they fear they won't be understood. I have seen it first hand, it is simple to just erase a text or post or to restrict anybody if they post anything that we do not agree with on the internet. Unfortunately, high school students and young kids often accept whatever they read on the internet as truth, which is problematic. From the moment learners arrive at school, instructors should really have discussions with them about cyber harassment. Personally, a teacher had many discussions with me and my class in high school about social media and how it could affect our future, and it really helped us. Overall, great work!
